Do you edit abstracts?

Yes, we can can edit abstracts, either as part of a whole article or on its own. Please include your abstract in the word count.

Do references count towards the word count?

No, the word count doesn’t need to include the bibliography. When calculating your word count, please include the title, headings, abstract, main text, figure captions and tables.

Can you edit supplementary information?

Yes, we can edit SI documents. If you would like us to edit the SI, please add the SI word count (excluding references) to your total number of words.

What figure support do you provide?

In a developmental edit, we give suggestions to improve the visual communication of figures, to ensure that relevant information is presented simply and clearly to readers. In a language edit, we make sure there is consistency in figure and panel labelling, check that all in-text call outs are correct and edit figure captions for clarity.

How do you know the details of my research area?

Our editors have extensive experience critically assessing and editing articles across all scientific topics. As part of a developmental edits, the editor will conduct a brief literature review to understand how your work relates to the wider field.

How long will the edit take?

We aim to return all editorial feedback within two weeks of receiving the text. However, editing times can vary depending on article length, editor availability and other factors, making this time frame an estimate and not guaranteed.
